Express Entry

Rolled out in the year 2015 for the purpose of Immigration to Canada, the Express Entry System attracts foreign nationals wanting to settle here. The program is evaluated by CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada). The express entry system includes applications from programs of the country.

There are no limitations on the number of applicants applying under the Express Entry pool.

Selected applicants will thereby get an option to apply for the Permanent Residence (PR). Many such PR invitation offers are sent each year to the selected immigrants. Only top-ranking candidates having required skills receive PR.

Eligible Programs

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) Under this minimum single year full-time work or an equal amount in part-time (1,560 hours total or 30 hours per week) in the last years is required from applicants. Applicants with volunteer work or unpaid internship experiences are NOT eligible to apply.

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) Applicants applying under FSTP are considered on their skilled trade experiences and qualifications.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Here applicants must have 12 months of full-time or an equivalent part-time skilled work experience in Canada in the last 3 years. Work experience gained under a proper authorization is considered an important factor for selection.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Canada’s provinces and territories nominate people with the required skills, education, and work experience to be part of the express entry.

Candidates with clear requirements as per the above-mentioned programs are accepted into a pool of candidates for final selection. Candidates without a job offers can be supported by Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or can be nominated by any province or territory; also applicants can enroll with Canada’s Employment and Social Development Agency to find a job. This will help connect the applicant with suitable employers based in Canada.

Process

An online application undergoes the following steps

1. Applicant creates his/her Express Entry profile (Expression of Interest-EOI) mentioning their qualification and skills on the online resume. Next their profile is ranked against others who already applied. Various factors will indicate your selection to be part of the Canadian workforce.

2. Applicants without a Canadian job offer registering themselves at the Canada Job Bank site is optional now.

3. If an applicant gets selected, then he/she is issued an Invitation to Apply. The applicant must respond within 90 days to that invitation to qualify for PR. After responding to the Invitation to Apply with applying for Permanent Residency, the Permanent Residency Visa is then issued to you within 6 months.

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

The Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is intended for foreign nationals who want PR status in Canada.

Potential applicants interested to apply to the Federal Skilled Workers Program must first go through the Express Entry system. Where applicants need to complete his/her online Express Entry profile to get into the pool of other applicants.

For employers needing to hire foreign skilled workers under this system, then they must make a job offer in order to get a skilled occupant.
The FSW is evaluated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). A base of 100 points is set to see how well the applicant scores to get entry to Canada’s labor market.

Applicant Requirement
  • Language skills (English, French).
  • Education completed 2 years of study in Canada for a Ph.D. from a recognized Canadian institution.
  • Work experience of the uninterrupted full time of 12 months or equivalent part-time in the past 10 years under occupation
    skill (Type O, A, B).
  • Age under 50 years.
  • Job offer as per Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) criteria from employers in Canada.
  • Financial Support.
  • Clear Medical and Criminal records.

The qualification point under FSW is 60.

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) selects a foreign national to have Canadian PR. The applicants are evaluated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) based on their experiences of work and skill.

First, applicants need to complete their online Express Entry profile, to be assorted amongst other pools of applicants.

If employers are searching for foreign skilled workers then they must make a qualifying job offer listing their desired occupation.

Applicant Requirement
  • Willing to live outside the province of Quebec.
  • Language ability in English or French in terms of speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
  • Minimum 2 years of full-time or an equal amount of part-time work experience in a skilled trade occupation in the past 5 years before applying.
  • Meeting job requirements according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
  • Must have a full-time employment job offer for a minimum of 1 year, or certificate of qualification as issued by a Canadian provincial or territory.
  • To gain extra points, applicants’ can show a Canadian post-secondary educational certificate, diploma or degree or equivalent completed foreign diploma, degree, or trade apprenticeship issued by a
    recognized educational institute.
